Platypus Creek Chooks

My grandmother bred Rohde Island Reds and instilled in me a love of poultry.

I have two projects at Platypus Creek, our 2ha lifestyle block in Allen's Rivulet: black Anconas and black Australorps. While the breeds are separated, all of my chooks have lots of room to roam, access to grass and dust bathing. My cockerels are gentle - a must because I have young children who delight in carrying the chooks around.

Note both are working projects and I am working towards improvement of my own lines.

My stock currently includes:

Tasmanian black Ancona cockerel over six Victorian line black Ancona hens; reliable layer of white eggs. Italian breed. Flighty, but easily tamed with regular handling. A very attractive breed, black with beetle-green sheen with white tips.

Tasmanian black Australorp cockerel over 4 Victorian line black Australorp hens; regular layers of light brown eggs. Australian breed. Bright red comb and wattles, lustrous black with green sheen. Great for beginners and children.
